That’s champion, Saddleworth ! Well done !

Well done to the boys of Saddleworth School year 11 rugby league team, who were crowned North-West champions after a 22-4 win in the final against the holders, Wade Deacon School, Widnes.

In atrocious conditions at Robin Park, Wigan, the local lads led 10-4 at half-time with tries by captain and stand-off Tom Whitehead and Jack Kenway, who also converted Whitehead’s try. Fenton Rogers thew the superb cut-out pass that set up Kenway’s try.

In the second half the strong-running Rogers and Ben Killan added further tries and Kenway landed two penalties to give Saddleworth the title.

Gary Melling’s team now look forward to their National final against Outwood Grange from Wakefield at Post Office Road, Featherstone when they will be seeking an unprecedented North-West and National double.

Well done boys and congratulations from everyone at Oldham RLFC.
