Beckett, Fletcher in 21-man squad

MATT Diskin has named his 21-man squad for tomorrow’s big game against Widnes Vikings at Bower Fold (3pm) and it includes his two recent signings Jimmy Beckett and Matthew Fletcher.

Prop Beckett signed on long-term loan this week from Featherstone Rovers and goes straight into the squad for the big 2020 kick-off which sees Oldham’s return to the Betfred Championship following their promotion from League 1 last year.

Beckett, you will remember, scored the match-winning try against Newcastle Thunder in the Promotion Final.

Also included is another young forward, Fletcher, who signed a fortnight ago and made an impressive debut in the 32-12 win against a St Helens Select side.

It means there are four 20-year-olds in the provisional 21-man squad — Beckett, Fletcher, John Hutchings and centre James Worthington.

Squad: Harry Aaronson, Dan Abram, Jimmy Beckett, Liam Bent, Danny Bridge, Adam Brook, Lewis Charnock, Ben Davies, Matthew Fletcher, Dave Hewitt, John Hutchings, Daniel Igbinedion, Kyran Johnson, Phil Joy, Declan Kay, Danny Langtree, Gareth Owen, Ed Smith, Jack Spencer, Matty Wilkinson, James Worthington.

Roughyeds are expecting a big crowd and fans are advised to get to the ground in plenty of time and to park away from the ground wherever possible.

All the indications, both locally and from Widnes, suggest there will be a good crowd with plenty of support for both teams.

The smart Bower Fold Events Centre, which was formerly the Indian Restaurant, will be open from 12.30pm, serving food and drinks.

The message from the club to fans is this: Get there early and help us to help you.
