OUR 2022 season kicks off tomorrow (Saturday) when Wakefield Trinity come to the Vestacare Stadium (6pm kick-off) for a pre-season friendly that sees Roughyeds in action for the first time since the club was reshaped from top to bottom.
“After doing a full pre-season, we’re ready to play; we need to play; we’re itching to get to the starting gate; and I’m excited about the game,” said Roughyeds’ coach Stuart Littler.
“I want to give everyone who is available an opportunity, and then it’s up to the boys to do what needs to be done to keep hold of the jerseys.
“Wakefield have named a squad that includes a few Super League fringe players. It will be a young side but that brings its own challenges because their boys will be out to make an impression and our guys will also be determined to show what we are all about in our first game together.
“It has all the makings of a cracking game and we are hoping our fans get behind us in numbers and make some noise.”
Five players are unavailable, so Stuart will have 20 – all of them keen to make an impression.
Unavailable are the injured Brad Jinks and Kian Morgan plus Callum Cameron, who still has two matches to sit out of a five-game ban for his previous club and two players who are currently following Covid protocols, Jordan Andrade and Emmerson Whittel.
That leaves Littler with a squad of 20, all of whom will be given a run.

Turnstiles open at 5pm, an hour before kick-off and the bar, catering facilities and public toilets are all situated inside the ground.
To get in and stand is £10 for adults and concessions; £2 for students (with ID); and FREE for under-16s.
There’s a £2 transfer to seats but for under-16s that’s £3.
