“CALL me Tom. If I get my Sunday name, ‘Thomas’, it’s usually because I’m in trouble,” said our 21-year-old SPORTS THERAPIST, who is on placement with the club as a third-year student of sports rehabilitation at the University of Salford.
Tom Ketteringham was born in Doncaster, but he was raised and has spent most of his life in Huddersfield, steeped in Rugby League and a former player at Moldgreen.
He went to High School and College in Huddersfield and hopes to graduate in sports rehab at the University of Salford this summer.
He answered an advert and landed our placement last summer, originally to the end of last season, but he had enjoyed his stay so much – “absolutely loved it,” — that he asked for, and got, an extension to his graduation and beyond.
Said Tom:
“Growing up in Huddersfield, and playing at Moldgreen, gave me a grounding in Rugby League which I’ll never forget. I love the game. I like football as well, but I much prefer to be involved with Rugby League. Players at all levels are passionate about the game and every game is high-intensity action.
“I jumped at the chance of joining Oldham and it was one of the best moves I’ve ever made.
“My role is to get injured players fully fit and game-ready once they’ve finished with the physio, so I work closely with Stu and the rehab team.
“I get my reward and job-satisfaction from seeing a player I’ve been working with back on the subs bench on game day.
“If you are working with a player for a while, you build up a relationship with him and there’s nothing better than to see that player back on the field, knowing how hard he has had to work just to get there.”
Stu Littler said of Tom:
“He’s great to have around the place. He challenges Shez and me — we like that — and he works closely with the rehab team and with Ben on strength and conditioning.”
