OUR head coach Stu Littler (pictured), 43-years young and involved in rugby league since he was a small boy, brought out his boots again to play for Leigh All-Stars in a charity match to raise money for the well-known charity “Life For A Kid.”
The former Leigh, Salford and Swinton centre star, ex-Swinton Lions’ and Ireland head coach, now head coach at Roughyeds and half way through a two-year deal, turned out for Leigh All-Stars against a Rugby League All-Stars side at Leigh Miners.
The game raised between £4,500 and £5,000 for the charity, which has close links with the RFL and raises much-needed money for children with special needs.
Said Stu:
“It’s a wonderful charity — and who wouldn’t play rugby league to help children who are disadvantaged and don’t enjoy the privileges that most of us take for granted?
“That alone made it a special day. Rugby League is brilliant at this sort of thing and long may it continue.
“It was also a great day from the socialising point of view. It was absolutely brilliant to turn back the clock and to meet up again with loads of former players, both teammates and opponents.
“It wasn’t full-on contact so that helped. Tackling was controlled and even though some of the guys did what came natural to them in terms of tackling, it was still easier than a normal game.
“I shudder to think what the aches and pains would have been like next day if it had been full contact !
“The main thing was everyone enjoyed the reunion and we raised a lot of money for the charity.”
Littler and his assistant, Brendan Sheridan, will name their 2022 Oldham Player of the Year in one of the many highlights of tomorrow night’s (Friday) club presentation evening at the Oldham Event Centre, Boundary Park.
