ROUGHYEDS are delighted to announce the signing of a young Yorkshireman who comes from a very similar background to that of his big mate and Huddersfield neighbour Kian Morgan.
Jordan Paga, aged 21 like Morgan, captained England Colleges from half-back when he was part of the Halifax Elite Rugby squad under their coaches Lee and Gareth Greenwood.
His early rugby days were spent at Moldgreen. like Sean Slater and he has also had spells at Huddersfield Giants, where he played Academy and Reserves rugby and also at Coventry Bears and at Hunslet in Betfred League One and, before that, at Almondbury Spartans in the Yorkshire Men’s League,
After a full season at Hunslet under Alan Kilshaw – he played against us at full-back in the last game of the 2022 regular season — Paga feels he is ready to kick-on and to advance his career under Stu Littler and Brendan Sheridan.
He scored nine tries for Hunslet last season and according to their website he finished third in their try-scoring pecking order.
“I’m thrilled to have signed for a club like Oldham”, he said, “and I’m already looking forward to the start of pre-season training.
“Last season I was played at full-back, wing, centre, both half-back positions, hooker, loose-forward and even prop, but really it’s fair to say I’m best suited to full-back, half or hooker.”
Despite the overseas look of his surname, he’s a Yorkshire lad through and through. You go back three generations to find the origins of his surname in his Polish great grandfather who came to England and settled in Huddersfield all those years ago,
Oldham coach Stu Littler said Paga was an exciting talent and a quality individual.
He added:
“I met him with the chairman and we were suitably impressed. He has a good attitude to defence as well as attack and we are looking forward to big things from him once he settles in.”
