LEWIS Sheridan returned to training for the first time last week after suffering a serious injury in the Law Cup.
Scrum-half Sheridan paid a visit to the lads who presented him with the Law Cup trophy after Roughyeds overcame Rochdale Hornets 18-14.
He was stretchered off mid-way through the second half of the game when he snapped his patella tendon and dislocated his knee.
While the club was celebrating its first Law Cup victory in four years, Lewis Sheridan was in Royal Oldham Hospital waiting to be treated where he remained for three days.
Said Sheridan:
“The lad who did it was one of the props and, as he pulled me back, my leg just went under myself. With how big he was and the force and pressure on it, it just snapped.
“I knew pretty much straight away what had happened. I heard a noise pop, but I didn’t really know the tendon had gone. I thought it was just a dislocation, because the physio had to put it back in on the pitch. When I went to the hospital I found out it was a bit more severe than that”
The 29-year-old went to hospital on Tuesday and he is now in a brace with his knee at 30%.
In a couple of weeks, hopefully it will be adjusted to 60% and then, if all goes well, he will see the doctor who will decide if he can go to one at 90%.
Each time, Lewis has to work on strengthening his leg in order to get his knee to bend to the desired degree
Afterwards, he will be able to start his rehab work with the club’s strength and conditioning coach Daniel Bedford and physio Lee Cholmondeley.
Added Sheridan:
“I’m couch ridden at the minute. My Mrs has been great, she’s done everything for me.
“We’ve got a little lad as well, he’s only a young kid, so she’s got her hands full with him turboing round the house and I’d like to say a big thank you to her.
“During the week, I’m just on the couch watching TV and Netflix and just trying to keep my mind at ease and not be bored.
“Hopefully after a couple of months I can get back into the gym and back to training and work on myself.”
The club wishes Lewis a speedy recovery and will provide him with all the support he needs in getting him back to full fitness.
