Ford's vision for the future

MIKE Ford (pictured), one of Oldham RL Club’s five new directors, has given his vision for the future of the club.

“It’s not to get to Wembley or chase a Super League place in five years,” he said, “but to get Oldham kids WANTING to play for Oldham again, as I did all those years ago. I know I signed for Wigan, but I wanted to sign for Oldham and I got there in the end.”

Fordy, now a 57 year old, was speaking on TV after being interviewed at Boundary Park by both the BBC and ITV.

He added:

“I think of Oldham kids wanting to play for Oldham again in this, our stadium.”

He cited Paul Sculthorpe and Kevin Sinfield as just two of many Oldham lads who had done, and are still doing, great things in the sport and went on:

“I’ve been in rugby union for the last 20 years, but my heart has always been in rugby league and, more specifically, in Oldham.

“There are loads of Oldham fellows in Super League and I can see the day when locals aspire to play for their home-town club.”

Oldham will return to Boundary Park next season to play on a new, £1m playing surface provided by Oldham Council, but for the remainder of this season they will continue at the Vestacare Stadium where the new board’s first home game will be a derby clash with Rochdale Hornets on Good Friday evening, kick-off 7.30pm.
