OLDHAM RLFC is delighted to announce former Great Britain Triathlete Kirstie Williamson as the Strength and Conditioning coach for the club’s first ever women’s side.
The 27-year-old from Ashton competed for the Great Britain Age-Group Team in the 2019 World Championships and currently runs the S&C for Rochdale AFC’s Elite Development Squad.
“This is the dream job for me as I’ve always wanted to work in rugby. I’ve always been around the sport growing up and I used to watch Oldham when I was younger," said Kirstie.
“I’m really excited to be a part of the club’s history and a part of the club’s first ever women’s side.
“It will be good to see where we can take it and see how fit and good we can get these girls to be. I can’t wait to get my teeth into this and develop a full team from scratch.”
She is currently studying a strength and conditioning masters at the University of Bolton after doing a degree in sports rehabilitation.
After retiring from Triathlon, Kirstie began doing CrossFit, which is a strength and conditioning fitness program.
“It’s the maddest sport you could put together in one work-out. You could be running and then moving on to doing weightlifting, or you could be doing gymnastics and then going for a run," she said.
“It is basically strength and conditioning with a brand name to it and doing this alongside my masters has helped to give me a better background and understanding of s&c.”
The first training session for our brand new women’s team begins this Saturday, March 25, at Melrose Playing Fields in Chadderton.
The training runs between 10am-12pm and the club is urging females — who are 16 and over — to get involved. No previous experience is needed.
Head coach Ste Fitzmartin will be running the session which will be focused on the basics and assessing ability, as well as getting to know everybody.
