THERE will be TWO Oldham-Rochdale rugby league derby games in Oldham on Good Friday, April 7.
The first is the Oldham Amateur League’s Standard Cup Final which will feature Waterhead Warriors, the pride of Oldham, against Mayfield, the pride of Rochdale, kicking off at 11.45am at Manor Park, home of Oldham RUFC at Bardsley.
The second is the Betfred League 1 clash between Stuart Littler’s Roughyeds, again the pride of Oldham, and Gary Thornton’s Rochdale Hornets, kicking off at 7.30pm at the Vestacare Stadium, Limehurst Village, Oldham.
This game has been rescheduled for 7.30pm, from 3pm, to avoid clashing with Oldham Athletic’s National League football game against Altrincham, which will be played at Boundary Park on Good Friday afternoon, kicking off at 3pm.
Roughyeds are currently third in the table, one of only three teams with a 100 per cent league record, and this will be their first home game since a new consortium, which includes Mike Ford, bought Oldham RLFC off Christopher Hamilton.
The new owners have dubbed it ‘Great Friday’ in recognition of all that’s involved.
There will be a curtain-raiser to the Standard Cup Final with the under-11s of Waterhead and Mayfield kicking off at 10.30am in a Memorial game for the late John Blair, the Oldham half-back.
Standard Cup admission prices are £5 (adults) and £3 (senior citizens and children).
