HEAD coach Stuart Littler was delighted to see his men execute the game plan in the 56-16 victory over Rochdale.
Going into the game, the Roughyeds boss made a point of starting the game well and nullifying the threat of Hornets in the opening few sets of the game.
It took just four minutes for Oldham to score through Pat Ah Van and there were four more, before Hornets could muster a response.
“We spoke all week about getting our emotions right leading into the match. We knew they were going to come with passion, and we’d get everything and the kitchen sink thrown at us in the first ten minutes,” said Littler.
“We wanted to take the steam out of the game and start on the front foot. We challenged the boys to go five from five in our sets, and they bettered that and did 14 out of 15.
“Our only incomplete set was when Kian Morgan couldn’t get the ball down as we went over the line.
“We played with pace and tempo and, off the back of that, we looked hungry in defence.”
It was Oldham’s third straight victory who, on average, have scored 45 points a game which is ten more than Dewsbury who are top of League 1, having played two extra games.
Across Oldham’s four games this year, Roughyeds have already had 12 different names on the scoresheet, highlighting their threats across the field.
“I’m delighted for the boys to be three from three. Jack Blagbrough and Luke Nelmes were great up front,” said Littler.
“Emmerson Whittel played big minutes, Harvey Wilson was outstanding and Ah Van played a full game playing in three different positions.
“Jordan Paga was brilliant – I could name everybody on the team sheet, it was just a great performance all round.”
