HEAD coach Stuart Littler has lauded the impact of the club’s dual-registration partnership with Wigan Warriors.
The Roughyeds boss has been delighted with how the Wigan lads have performed so far this season, particularly in the win over local rivals Rochdale.
Four of Roughyeds tries over Rochdale Hornets on Good Friday were scored by players on dual-registration, who overall have contributed to nearly a third of Oldham’s tries in all competitions.
“We’ve got a good relationship with Wigan and it’s one we’re keen to nurture and grow. The players who have stepped in throughout the year have been magnificent,” said Littler.
“We want to develop Oldham Rugby League and the more depth in the squad we can get, the better we become; it’s helped us when we’ve had injuries too.”
The partnership was particularly important early in the year, when Roughyeds had 7 or so players either banned or injured.
Logan Astley, who has filled in for Gregg McNally at full-back, has three tries to his name already.
Alex Sutton has also been in hot form, scoring tries in every game he has played in.
“Sutty is scoring tries for fun, he has four already and he has some real pace,” said Littler.
“Logan Astley showed what he was about against Rochdale. He’s very much a threat with the ball and he has pace to burn, if you get Logan in some space he finishes the opportunities.
“Dougy (Jacob Douglas) is electric with his pace, too and Harvey Wilson was impressive too.”
Roughyeds travel to Doncaster this weekend with a stronger squad to choose from with Kian Morgan, Emmerson Whittel and Dom Newton — who weren’t available in the reverse fixture — all back playing.
Tickets for the 3pm kick off at the Eco Power Stadium, are priced at £12 for adults and £1 for ages 16 and under.
