Players assn and Victor Michael

VICTOR Michael, one of the most sought-after tenors in the UK, will again put on his famous show at The White Hart, Lydgate on Thursday, May 11 — and the Oldham RLFC Players Assn will be there, not only to support Victor but as a memorial to their former leader, the late Bernard Halford and also to provide an opportunity for their members to entertain their long-suffering women folk.

Tickets cost £25 and can be obtained from Ray Hicks, John Watkins or Joe Warburton, the Assn secretary who is also instrumental in promoting the Family Tuesday Club at Heyside Cricket Club, a weekly informal social gathering for all rugby league people in the area, amateur or pro, fans, players, officials, referees, anyone in fact who has an interest in our great game and would like to meet with like-minded people for a pint and a natter.

“The Family Club is coming along well,” said Joe, “and all the signs are that it will go from strength to strength.”

It meets every Tuesday lunchtime. Just turn up at Heyside Cricket Club to talk rugby and you’ll be made very welcome.

The Players’ Assn will be well represented at the two big rugby league games in Oldham on Friday — the Standard Cup Final featuring Waterhead and Mayfield at Manor Park, kick-off 11.45am, and the Oldham-Rochdale Betfred League One derby at the Vestacare Stadium. starting at 7.30pm.

Under the tutelage of Stuart Littler, Oldham have won each of their two games to date and currently lie third in the table
