Women's team on show on Derby Day

FANS will get a first glimpse at our brand new women’s team who will walk out at half-time of our Good Friday derby against Rochdale at the Vestacare Stadium, kick off 7:30pm.

The girls will be at the game before kick off, and anybody interested in being a part of Roughyeds first ever women’s side is encouraged to sign up.

Also in attendance will be England Women’s International centre Amy Hardcastle, whose partner plays for Rochdale Hornets.

Since starting training on March 25, the girls have been put through their paces in the three training sessions run by head coach Ste Fitzmartin and strength and conditioning coach Kirstie Williamson.

The players, whose ages range from 16 to 38, have backgrounds in rugby union and league, as well as some who are giving the sport a go for the first time.

You can hear from our players Rosie Prendergast, Katy Crosby, Sinead Fletcher and Zoe Butler this Easter Monday who all feature on the 13 Pro-Am Community Rugby League podcast.

The podcast, hosted by rugby league journalist Dave Parkinson, is available on the usual podcast providers including Apple and Spotify.

Tickets for our Good Friday derby against Rochdale Hornets at the Vestcare Stadium are priced at £16 for adults, £10 for concessions, £5 for students and FREE for under-16s and can be purchased on our ticketing site.

Training for our women’s side has moved from once to twice a week, and now takes place every Tuesday and Thursday between 6pm and 7pm.

Anybody interested in getting involved and being a part of the team is encouraged to email oldhamwomenrl@outlook.com.
