Boundary Park game a taste of things to come

WE’VE three games left in our 18-match Betfred League One regular season and now we’ve got a date and venue for the outstanding home game against Workington Town, we can go on record with full details of what’s to come before the start of the play-offs in September.

  • GAME ONE: v Rochdale Hornets away, a week on Sunday, August 20, kick-off 3pm, Crown Oil Arena.
  • GAME TWO: v Workington Town home, Wednesday, August 23, kick-off 7.30pm, Boundary Park.
  • GAME THREE: v Midlands Hurricanes home, Sunday, August 27, kick-off 3pm, Vestacare Stadium.

That’s three games in eight days, but against that two of them are at home in Oldham, all three are in close proximity to home for most of our supporters and we’ve got the exciting news that the Workington game will be played at Boundary Park on the new £1M pitch, writes ROGER HALSTEAD.

The superb facilities of the 2,500-seat Joe Royle stand will be available to Roughyeds and to mark the occasion, ahead of the club’s permanent move there next season, the club are offering a £25 ticket which includes hospitality, use of the Broadway Suite and pie and peas supper.

The swish, well-worth-seeing Joe Royle stand, which will be open, seats 2,500 and is a wonderful example of modern stadia. Indeed, Boundary Park will be one of the finest grounds available to Rugby League fans. This, coupled with good car parking and ease of access (just off the motorway system and ideally situated for traffic from both west Lancashire and Yorkshire) makes it an ideal venue for big matches requiring a neutral stadium.

Little wonder Mike Ford was at pains, when he made the big announcement, to publicly thank Latics for their help and co-operation in the re-arrangement of the Workington game at comparatively short notice.

He offered both his personal thanks and those of the club to Latics and added:

”This is just one more example of the great relationship we have with them. They help us no end and we are very, very grateful."

Our next home game will be the Boundary Park experience and club officials see it as the perfect taster for things to come, to nothing of the fact that it’s the first of two home games with which we drop the curtain on the regular season.

Roughyeds couldn’t ask for more than that. Over to you Fordy and the lads on the pitch!
