Turner excited to be here

OUR latest big-name signing, Jordan Turner, is the fifth experienced Championship or Super League player to come to our club in this latest Mike Ford era.

He won’t actually join us until pre-season training for next year starts this autumn. We have signed this 34-year-old Oldham-born from Castleford Tigers for seasons 2024 and 2025 with coaching duties thrown in, writes ROGER HALSTEAD.

”I can’t wait to get started,"

said Turner, who follows Pat Moran, Nick Rawsthorne, Josh Johnson (another Oldham-born player) and Jamie Ellis as players to commit to the revolution that is currently taking the club into the Promised Land.

We haven’t seen Ellis in an Oldham jersey yet because he pulled a hamstring in one of his first sessions here, but Oldham are clearly building a squad for Championship rugby and Turner has no doubt been assured that he won’t be the last well-known name to join the club in the weeks ahead.

Turner, meanwhile, said:

”I’m excited to be here. There’s a lot of hard work to be done and I’m looking forward to being part of it. I like to think I still have a lot to offer. I’ve been in the game a long time and I was beginning to think I would never get the chance to play for the club I supported as a boy."

Born and brought up in Oldham, his entire family supported Roughyeds and he is part of the Turner clan at Oldham St Anne’s, namely Lee and Suzanne, whose younger son, Dylan Turner, is a teenage prop who has played first-team rugby for St Anne’s. He has played for England Community Lions under-19s and is currently in Australia, playing out there for experience
