Workington game at Boundary Park

OLDHAM RLFC is thrilled and excited to announce that our home game against Workington Town will be played at Boundary Park on Wednesday, August 23 with a 7.30pm kick-off.

We will play all our home games next season at Boundary Park, irrespective of which division we will be in, but we are delighted to be going there “early” for this one, given that we couldn’t play on a Sunday between now and the end of the season and that we couldn’t be accommodated at the Vestacare Stadium in mid-week.

Oldham Athletic have been brilliant with us to organise this game at relatively short notice and we can’t thank them enough.

Roughyeds’ managing director Mike Ford said:

“We’ve had to negotiate a few obstacles in re-arranging this one and that’s why there has been a delay. However, Latics have done us proud. It will be a big night for the club, for our fans and for the town. Apart from anything else, it will give everybody a chance to see how terrific the facilities are there and what awaits them next season.

“The Joe Royle stand will be open for the Workington game and it’s a fantastic viewing and hospitality facility, which we would like as many rugby league fans as possible to see at first hand.

“This is yet another example of our great relationship with Latics. As a club, its exciting to be playing on a brand-new £1M pitch in a great stadium and I know it will inspire our players no end to be playing there in front of family, work mates and friends. It will be good for the opposition as well, but my thoughts are all about us and there is no doubt that our players will relish it.

“The car park off Broadway, which is adjacent to the Joe Royle stand, can accommodate 250 cars and, if necessary, there is more room for cars behind the Rochdale Road stand.

“Our fans are first and foremost in our thoughts and we know they will love the match-night experience at Boundary Park. We are working all the time on giving them value for money and a great day out next season and although there isn’t much time for this one we’ll do our utmost to make it a special night for everyone and I know Latics will too.

“We will be doing a special ticket for £25 which provides entry to the game, use of the Broadway Suite plus pie and peas and we are hoping to get an ex-player in there to meet and great people, talk to them, and generally make his presence felt, all part of the package.

“Underneath the magnificent Joe Royle Stand is a Fans’ Bar and that will also be open for anyone who would rather sample that or just have a drink.

“The message I want to get across is that the facilities are excellent and that all our games are must-win games. This one is no exception. We are going for promotion and we need the town behind us.

“Admission prices are just the same as those at the Vestacare Stadium and fans can either buy tickets in advance on line or on the night at the turnstiles, The choice is up to them.”
