Club seeks volunteers

As we approach the season’s climax, Oldham are guaranteed at least one play off game at Boundary Park. Following the club’s highly successful ‘debut’ at their new home against Workington, match-day volunteers are being sought for this year’s play-offs and the 2024 season.

Chairman Bill Quinn said:

‘The Workington game was a good opportunity for us to test what our staffing requirements are going to be at Boundary Park. Whilst the evening was a great success, and there were no major issues, inevitably we had a couple of teething problems. As a result, we are now asking for additional volunteers to work for the club on match-days. If you are over 18 and can spare some of your time to help the club, please get in touch with us’.

Following the recent transfer from the previous owner Chris Hamilton, the Oldham Rugby League Community Trust is currently going through a restructure to enable the delivery of key programmes of work to support rugby league at all levels in Oldham. The Trust will be providing important updates on its structure and plans in the coming weeks.

However, one area that it is keen to start working on immediately is the development of the Melrose Playing Fields Training Facility. As such, volunteer tradesmen are being sought to help with this crucially important work.

Club and Trust Director Haydn Walker said:

‘After securing funding from Oldham Council’s Local Improvement Fund (LIF) we have also applied for funding from the RFL’s World Cup Capital Grant’s Programme. As a result, we are now looking to get work started on developing our training / community hub and are looking for tradesmen to help us. If you are a builder, joiner, electrician, plumber, roofer, or any other skilled tradesmen and can spare some of your time and experience to help us, it would be hugely appreciated’.

Anybody interested in volunteering, either as a tradesman or on match-days, should contact Mike Ford by email at .

In other news, the Club / Trust have made the decision to temporarily put its Oldham Women’s Team on hold and have parted ways with Coach Ste Fitzmartin by mutual agreement.

Club and Trust Director Simon Winnard said,

‘In the last couple of months, it’s become clear that the infrastructure we inherited wasn’t adequate to best support the Women’s team. As with every professional club, the Trust runs the Women’s team. Therefore, as part of its restructure, it will fully address this in preparation for a relaunch in the coming months. We wish to place on record our thanks for all the efforts of the coaches and players over the last few months.
