London Skolars withdraw from League 1

Oldham RLFC is sorry to learn that London Skolars has informed the Rugby Football League (RFL) of its decision to withdraw from Betfred League 1 in 2024.

As Roughyeds understand it, London Skolars will continue to play in Southern Conference, and all at Oldham RLFC wish them every success in their new chapter.

This news was confirmed by the RFL early Friday morning in a meeting between clubs who are either confirmed or potential League 1 participants for the 2024 season.

Following that meeting, the RFL released the following statement:

‘While it is disappointing to lose London Skolars from Betfred League 1, their intention to play in the Southern Conference League in 2024 is welcome as it would add to the strength of that competition and ensure that the Skolars continue to offer a playing and development opportunity in the Haringey and wider north London area’.

As things stand at present, this now leaves only nine teams in the division. As such, the RFL went on to state, ‘Discussions have already begun with the other Betfred League 1 clubs about the impact on their 2024 fixture list, with a range of options to be considered’.

Oldham RLFC can confirm that it will continue to be part of those discussions and will, of course. update supporters as soon as possible.
