ROUGHYEDS have completed a key piece of recruitment with Kian Morgan agreeing a new one-year contract.
Morgan has been an integral part of the team since making his debut when he scored four tries in a commanding 100-4 victory over West Wales in April 2022.
Speaking on putting pen to paper with the club for the third time, Morgan said: “It was an honour to be one of the first players asked to sign again with the club.
“It didn’t matter to me what league or position the club was in, I would have signed regardless because of my love towards the club and the supporters.
“I had offers from other clubs, but my heart is with Oldham.
“I’m not the finished article yet and I’m getting better with each game, and there’s a lot more development in me.”
The centre, who can also play at full-back and in the halves, arrived at the club after stints with Halifax and Castleford Tigers.
He has an impressive try-scoring record for Roughyeds, having touched down 20 times in 34 appearances.
During the season just gone, Huddersfield-born Morgan helped secure a third victory over neighbours Rochdale when he scored a last-gasp try, snatching a 24-20 victory from the jaws of defeat.
He has thrived each time Oldham have played at Boundary Park, the clubs permanent home from 2024 onwards, with him scoring tries in both games played at the stadium last season.
And Morgan is hoping to build on last year’s campaign which resulted in a play-off defeat to North Wales.
“We started well but just fell short at the last few hurdles,” he said.
“We need to be consistent this year and we are going to focus on righting the wrongs in pre-season as a team as we look forward to what will be a massive season for us.”
More faces, in addition to the 14 already announced, will be added to the Oldham squad in the coming days.
