ROUGHYEDS have brought in Adam Lawton on a two-year deal, further strengthening the forward pack.
The towering prop, who can also play second-row, stands at 6ft 7in and joins the club after a three-year stint with Widnes Vikings.
He brings to Boundary Park a knack for try-scoring, with an impressive record of 40 tries scored in 87 appearances.
“The club has got a massive history and the aspirations, to get the club back to where it should be, excited me,” said Lawton.
“I had quite a few offers elsewhere, as well as one to stay with Widnes, but I just felt the time was right to take this opportunity.
“I want to be on this journey the club is going on and hopefully next year is just going to be the first building block of that.
“Boundary Park is a beautiful stadium and I can’t wait to get out there. The turf is amazing – and it’s massive as well.
“I like to think I am capable of strong carries, as well as being able to run a good line, and I seem to end up scoring quite a few tries as well.”
The 30-year-old showed what he was made of when he scored a hat-trick as well as making several line-breaks in Widnes’ 42-20 victory over Oldham at the Vestacare Stadium, during pre-season.
After joining the Widnes academy in 2009, he made his debut for the Vikings in 2013.
During his breakout year with then-Super League Widnes, he crossed the line nine times out of 12 games played.
Following his departure in 2014, he went Down Under to play for Redcliffe Dolphins – who are now in the NRL - and later, West Bank Bears before signing for Salford Red Devils.
He played on loan at both Swinton and Rochdale and signed for Newcastle before rejoining Widnes ahead of the 2021 season.
Adam Lawton becomes Oldham’s 18th signing for the 2024 season with more new faces to be announced tomorrow.
