O'Keefe on signing for Oldham

BEN O’Keefe can’t wait to get started after joining Roughyeds.

The centre, whose signing was announced this morning, will play for Oldham until at least the end of the 2025 season, ending a two-year spell with Rochdale Hornets.

“After Mike Ford told me about the club’s ambition and the plans for the upcoming season, I knew it was the place I had to be,” he said.

“He spoke with so much passion and where he wants Oldham to go and I thought to myself: ‘I have to be a part of this’, and I cant wait to get started.

“When you have a club as big as Oldham and everybody is working towards the same goal, it makes things ten times easier and I’m excited to see where it goes.”

In his first year with Hornets, the former Rochdale Mayfield amateur shone after scoring ten tries in eight appearances.

The 21-year-old’s good form continued in 2023 to the extent that he was recently nominated for the Young Player of the Year award for League One.

After signing, Rochdale-born O’Keefe also gave fans an insight into what he will bring to Boundary Park as a player.

“I’m an exciting young player to watch with a lot of skill and I’m sure I can perform as good as I know I can be,” he added.

“As well as that I am a hard-worker in pre-season and do everything the coaches want me to do.”
