Players Association next big event

The Oldham Rugby Players’ Assn prides itself on catering socially for all tastes and pockets, hence their next big bash at Springhead Sports and Social Club on Friday, December 8 which is little more than a month since we had that magnificent annual dinner at St Herbert’s which attracted nearly 200 rugby league diehards at £35 a throw.

This next event is not as lavish, is more intimate, with potato pie supper, a comedian (Gary Marshall) and music provided by Bing (that’s Findlater, not Crosby). Last year a great night was enjoyed by all and the potato pie was delicious with seconds for those with larger appetites.

It starts at 7.30pm and goes on until late and the cost isn’t £35, or even £25 – it’s just £10 and for that, plus the cost of what you spend on drink,  you can be guaranteed a great night out with like-minded people who are supporting the Association directly and the parent club indirectly.

All welcome, the more the merrier, and tickets are available from behind the bar at the Springhead club or from Joe Warburton (07882848340) or from John Watkins (07974612038). You might even find there’s a cheese and onion alternative if you don’t like potato pie or you don’t eat red meat.

While talking about the Players’ Association, we can tell you that membership is  increasing gradually and now stands at 98, all but 18 of whom are fully paid up.
