Dylan Turner going well Down Under

JUST over a year ago, if you recall, we told you that Dylan Turner, an Oldham teenager who had been playing prop for the St Anne’s first team, had accepted an invitation to join that well-known Aussie production line that comes out of the Kincumber Club, situated on the New South Wales coast to the north of Sydney.

St Anne’s have big connections with Kincumber via the Deakins and they felt Turner’s game would develop immensely from a spell away from home and with an Australian club with a reputation for bringing on youngsters.

A big, strong boy with experience of playing with and against men in the St Anne’s senior side, he did well at Kincumber last year, starting off in their under-19s and progressing to second grade and then first grade. At the end-of-season Awards Night last October he was presented with a Clubman of the Year award.

In the off-season last November he took part in a charity boxing match which he won with a knock-out.

He was invited to trial and train during pre-season with the Manly Sea Eagles Jersey Flegg squad, this leading him to be selected for Manly Leagues who have, for the first time, entered the Sydney Shield. which is the New South Wales RL’s fourth-tier men’s competition leading into the Ron Massey Cup for both emerging and senior players.

Dylan is still only 19 and his squad is coached by Anthony ‘Choc’ Watmough, twice a Sea Eagles Premiership-winning forward, so he’s in good hands.

It has been a busy, action-packed, informative and a hectic 12 months for Dylan, who has recently renewed his visa to see where his rugby league journey will take him next
