Oldham RLFC have moved quickly to counter incorrect press reports about the clubs tax affairs
Reports wrongly claimed the club had paid £10,000 to avoid being wound up. In further inaccuracies, reports also said that the club was given more time to pay when a petition was first heard last year.
In another false claim it was stated that the court was told part of a tax debt had been paid off but that £10k was still outstanding, which had now been paid.
All those statements are totally wrong.
Furthermore, nobody was in touch with the club to check facts before the story was printed.
The truth is that the club owed HMRC just under £2400 at the end do December as a result of a short term cash flow issue. This debt was paid in early January and the matter was formally dismissed yesterday in accordance with HMRC procedures.there were no debts left over from any previous hearings or Petitions, nor had any time been given to pay as the clubs affairs were up to date.
We are disappointed that we have had to respond to this matter but we want fans to know the facts so we can concentrate on moving forward as we embrace the on field challenges we face following our promotion to the Championship
