CHRIS Hamilton is urging Oldham RL fans to back Roughyeds in numbers against city slickers Bradford Bulls at Bower Fold on Sunday.
The Bulls travel to Stalybridge (3pm kick-off) as unbeaten Championship leaders — a side going flat out to regain their Super League status this year after narrowly missing out in 2015.
Since the formation of Oldham RLFC (1997) Ltd, this will be the first time the clubs have played each other in league competition.
Said the Oldham chairman: “It will be a big occasion for us. Bradford will bring a lot of fans with them. They will be in fine voice and we don’t want our supporters to be out-numbered and out-shouted at a home game.
“There should be a terrific atmosphere.”
Tom Ashton and Craig Briscoe are ruled out by illness or injury, thus leaving coach Scott Naylor with 21 players from whom to pick his Oldham side.
There are still no dual-registration players available to Roughyeds from Huddersfield because of the Giants’ large injury list.
Adam Files has proved his fitness after ankle trouble, so Scott Naylor will choose his 17 from the side that played at Featherstone plus Jon Ford, Files, Steve Roper and Gary Middlehurst.
Said Naylor: “We are improving every week as a team, so we have to get out there; give it everything we’ve got; and see where it takes us.”
