Oldham v Bradford Bulls (3:00pm, Sunday, March 6, 2016, Bower Fold, Stalybridge))
Despite being beaten 20-6 at Featherstone, Oldham coach Scott Naylor said: “We can take positives from big chunks of the game. The beginning of the game was disappointing, we gave Featherstone too much respect and let them dictate but after the first 10/12 minutes we were hard to score against. It would have been nice to start the game at a high level and see what happens. The lads took a lot out of the game, they’re great, we’re doing a lot of good stuff.”
Looking ahead to the visit of a full-time Bradford team he said: “This is the kind of thing we knew would happen when we got promoted. You’ve got two choices you either go and face these challenges or you curl up and you don’t. We’re not that kind of club.
“We’ve been working hard this week fixing a few things we did against Featherstone and working hard on Bradford as well. We understand the task but it’s just another full-time team we knew we would have to play.
“To play three full-time teams in the first five games I think has been a bonus for us because we’ve played at a far higher level early in the season and it’s taught us a lot, so we look at it as a positive.”
Bradford assistant coach Chev Walker said:“We are trying to build and build and build, but last week we took a backwards step. We’ve addressed the Leigh performance. It’s a matter of getting back to the drawing board and making sure that doesn’t happen again, and then building from there. We’ve put last week to bed. It’s a fresh week with another game.
“Looking at the footage, Oldham caused Leigh a few problems the other week. They’ve got a good back line and they tend to move the ball quickly out wide. They’ll put a bit a pressure on our middle and try to work them, which was an area that we were poor in last week and it’s an area that suits their game, so we’ll have to make sure we fix that for the weekend.
“They bring an eagerness to their game. I’m sure that they’ll be up for it and looking for an upset, so it’ll be another good test and it will be down to us to perform. The boys have trained really well this week and they’re looking forward to the game.”
