KENNY Hughes , with sore ribs, is doubtful for Oldham’s big test at Hull KR in the fifth round of the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup.
He didn’t train last night after picking up the injury in the superb 21-20 win against Sheffield Eagles at Bower Fold.
From the bench he shared the hooking role with Gareth Owen, but went off midway through the second half after taking a blow to the ribs.
When Richard Lepori followed him ten minutes later with a cut head, Owen switched from hooker to full-back and Hughes went back on for the final, nail-biting ten minutes.
“We’ll keep an eye on him and see how he is on Thursday, but at this stage it’s fair to say he’s doubtful,” summed up coach Scott Naylor, who confirmed that a third hooker in the squad, Adam Files, was back training as normal after recovering from a stomach upset.
Danny Langtree and Danny Grimshaw, senior players who didn’t figure in the home wins against Batley Bulldogs and Sheffield Eagles, will also be in contention for the tie against Super League’s Robins on Saturday at the KC Lightstream Stadium, kicking off at 2pm.
Naylor, meanwhile, will be speaking to Huddersfiekd Giants boss Paul Anderson, probably today, to find out whether any of the Giants squad will be available to him on dual registration.
Giants’ teenagers Liam Johnson and Tyler Dickinson have played in the Roughyeds last four games.
+ Oldham chairman Chris Hamilton and his Leigh equivalent Derek Beaumont will be studio guests on BBC Radio Manchester’s ‘Rugby League Hour’ tomorrow (Thursday) night, between 6pm and 7pm.
