Thoughts on 'Haven v Oldham

Whitehaven v Oldham (Saturday, 6.30pm kick-off)

Whitehaven lost 16-12 to London Broncos last week.

Coach James Coyle said:

We probably should have got a little bit more out of it than we did. We led for most of the game and had it by the scruff of the neck at one point but we just lacked a bit of energy and intensity in the second half.

Oldham are one of the form teams at the minute. In their last three games they’ve beaten Batley, Sheffield and Hull KR. Everyone says you’re only as good as your last game and that was a win against a Super League team! They’re going to be tough to beat and we’re probably getting them at a bad time.

The Chapelhow twins are available for selection along with Ed Chamberlain.

Oldham caused one of the biggest upsets of recent years with their 36-22 win at Hull Kingston Rovers in the Challenge Cup.

Coach Scott Naylor said:

It was a fantastic day. Those days don’t come around often enough, unfortunately, but when they do you’ve got to make the most of them and enjoy them. Then you’ve got to get on with the normal season after that.

I think Whitehaven have been a little bit like us. They’ve come up with a few wins that people probably didn’t expect them to. They are a very hard team to beat at home, always have been. We’re expecting a tough game. We’ve played really well in our last three games and for us it’s about trying to maintain that level. If we can maintain that level, we’ll be in with a chance.

Wing Jamel Chisholm is a doubt but players who were cup tied and dual reg will be available for selection.
