DANNY Langtree will be in for treatment on his ankle injury tonight in the hope that he will be fit to return to the Oldham side for Sunday’s Championship clash with top-of-the-table Leigh Centurions at Bower Fold (3pm).
The squad has been given a night off to compensate for the fact that Leigh and most of the other Championship clubs enjoyed a free weekend while Roughyeds were up against Super League leaders Warrington Wolves in the sixth round of the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup.
Of the other 11 Championship clubs only Batley, Dewsbury and Halifax were involved in cup-ties (all beaten at home) and in the only league game Whitehaven were smashed 44-22 at home by Featherstone — a good result for Oldham because it keeps Whitehaven in the bottom two with Workington.
Craig Briscoe, out since pre-season with a serious knee injury, will also continue his rehab tonight ahead of his anticipated return to action within the next two or three weeks,
Jon Ford was due to have an injection in his damaged knee later today, but it isn’t known yet how long much longer he is likely to be unavailable.
Leigh, who have lost only one league game all season, are expected to bring a big following. The Lord Tom Pendry Stand, which was in use at a rugby game this season for the first time at the Warrington cup-tie, will be open again for Leigh fans.
Speculation continues to surround the future of the Centurions’ Kiwi half-back star Rangi Chase, who left the field with a back injury during Leigh’s home win against Batley last time out.
There has been no official comment from LSV, but it is thought unlikely that Chase will play against Oldham.
With Fuifui Moimoi and Andrew Dixon on the casualty list and Sam Hopkins suspended , Leigh have signed 20-year-old Hull FC back-rower Brad Fash (20) on a month’s loan. He is expected to play against Oldham this weekend,
