SUMMER BASH --- 'CALL TO ACTION'

ONLY two weeks to go now before we play Swinton Lions at Blackpool in one of our most important KP Championship games of the season.

The Summer Bash weekend promises to be a fabulous two days of Championship rugby league (not to mention the iPro Sport Cup final) and the highlight for Oldham supporters and Swinton Lions fans will be the clash of the derby rivals at Bloomfield Road on Sunday afternoon, May 29, kicking off at 3pm.

Oldham-Swinton games are traditionally tight, hard-fought and full of passion — and from our perspective this particular derby has all the ingredients to be a real cracker as our boys bid to turn the tables after going down 28-18 when we played the Lions at Sale RU Club at the end of March.

We meet again at Bower Fold in July and there’s every chance we’ll again go head to head in the 8s, but neither of those games will compare with the excitement of the Summer Bash derby, played out in front of a big crowd at Bloomfield Road on one of our sport’s biggest and best gala events of the year.

You’ve only to listen to Scott, as coach, and Lewis, as captain, to recognise how important it will be to the squad to walk out into that big stadium to the roar of Roughyeds supporters, there in numbers to fly the flag for the boys who’ve achieved so much and travelled such a long way since they swept all before them in League One last year.

They can reasonably expect to have at least as many fans behind them as Swinton will have so this is YOUR opportunity to show your allegiance to Scott and the boys on a day when we can showcase to the whole of Championship rugby league what our club is all about and what a close affinity there is between players and supporters.

WE MUST NOT LET THIS OPPORTUNITY SLIP THROUGH OUR FINGERS. IT WILL BE RUGBY LEAGUE’S DAY, BUT WITH YOUR SUPPORT IN NUMBERS WE CAN ALSO MAKE IT OLDHAM’S DAY.

Summer Bash tickets will be on sale at Bower Fold this Sunday between 2pm and 3pm from the ticket office near the social club inside the ground. Cash or cheque only please. Arrive early and you can watch Waterhead under-10s playing Newton Storm in a league game.

Summer Bash tickets will also be available from our office at Whitebank (inside the ground) next week as follows:

Monday, Tuesday, 9.30am to 1.30pm; Wednesday, 9.30am to 3pm; Thursday, 9.30am to 1.30pm; Friday, 9.30am to 4pm.
