THE heartiest congratulations of everyone at Oldham RLFC go to our volunteer website expert Dave Naylor, a lifelong fan, who has landed the prestigious Supporters’ Direct award as their 2016 Community Champion.
Dave volunteered to join the club’s media team when it was in need of someone with his particular skills and we feel the award couldn’t have gone to anyone more deserving.
Said club chairman Chris Hamilton: “We are delighted for Dave, who puts in a lot of work on fan-based matters and is now a highly-valued member of our volunteer media team. He helps the club in a variety of roles and works alongside Jenny Travis on social media and other related initiatives.”
The team comprises of David Murgatroyd (club photographer), Peter Gray (video), Jenny Travis (social media), Dave Naylor (website and match-day programme) and Roger Halstead (media manager).
Supporters Direct issued the following statement:
Supporters Direct are pleased to announce the recipient of the 2016 Community Champion Award as Dave Naylor from Oldham RLFC.
With a substantial amount of nominations, the Supporters Direct Rugby League Council felt that the work Dave does perfectly captures the spirit of the award and that he is a worthy winner.
We asked people to nominate individuals who have gone above and beyond the call of duty while supporting their Rugby League club this campaign.
We were looking to celebrate individuals who help build and improve the relationships between the club they support and its fan base, or those who encourage their clubs to have a greater level of community involvement or are involved directly themselves with engaging the wider local community.
Dave Naylor has worked miracles this season for Oldham RLFC and its supporters, voluntarily taking over the running of the official website, social media accounts and producing video highlights and audio content for supporters to enjoy.
He has thrown himself into everything with great enthusiasm and aplomb and has not only improved the media side of the club but worked hard to re-connect the club to its supporters and the community it serves.
Dave has been described by fans as “a true club man and one worthy of recognition,” and “an inspiration for all supporters” with a number stating that Dave’s updates to fans and his contribution to the website and social media have proved “invaluable.”
Dave and a guest will attend the RFL End of Season Awards Dinner on Monday 12th September at The Queens Hotel in Leeds where he will be presented his award live on stage.
Supporters Direct would like to thank all those who took the time to nominate individuals for this award, we were blown away by the work that is done by dedicated supporters, passionate about their clubs, communities and the sport as a whole.
We are honoured to give Dave Naylor some much deserved recognition and congratulate him on being named as the 2016 Supporters Direct Community Champion.
