HAVING successfully cemented its place in the Kingstone Press Championship next season, Oldham RLFC can confirm that it is in talks with Stalybridge Celtic to play at Bower Fold again in 2017 and that it is also in discussions with Oldham Council and other parties regarding the development of Whitebank Stadium.
Contrary to reports out today, the club can also confirm that the debt to the Council is substantially less than has been quoted and that we have been speaking to OMBC for a considerable time regarding the site as a whole and the potential for improvement.
People will be aware that this is the reason we are currently playing out of the borough again at Bower Fold.
As part of these discussions a number of options have been, and continue to be, discussed with various parties which will ultimately enable funds to be brought in to dramatically change the face of Whitebank Stadium.
This has necessitated the surrender of the current lease as part of the process to allow this to happen but fans should be assured that the club’s position is and has been protected moving forward.
Ironically, given the negative nature of some reports today, we can confirm that a planning application will be submitted in the next couple of days for the installation of an artificial surface to replace the existing grass surface.
Having secured our position in the Championship, this is a time for renewed optimism for all concerned as we continue to work hard in our attempts to make the club stronger.
We thank fans for their support yesterday and over the course of the season and we look forward to making further advances, on and off the pitch, in 2017.
