MAGGIE’S Oldham, the cancer support charity backed by the Stoller Charitable Trust, will be Oldham Rugby League Club’s main kit sponsors in their 20th anniversary season that starts with Sunday’s Law Cup game against Rochdale Hornets at Bower Fold.
The new kit, proudly featuring Maggie’s on the front of the shirts, will be worn for the first time when Sheffield Eagles are at Bower Fold on Sunday, February 5 to kick-off the 2017 Kingstone Press Championship campaign.
Construction work is continuing on the £3M ‘Maggie’s Oldham, the Norman Stoller Centre’ which is planned to open in May at the Royal Oldham Hospital, providing quality cancer support with an anticipated 10,000 visits a year.
Said Oldham RLFC chairman Chris Hamilton: “We are delighted to announce that Maggie’s will be our main sponsors and will be featured on our home and away jerseys as well as our replicas.
“As this will be the 20th anniversary season of Oldham RLFC (1997) Ltd we wanted to do something a little bit differently, and community based, and what better way than to forge a partnership with a charity that will be offering the people of Oldham the best possible cancer support.
“Few people these days have not been touched by cancer and we are looking forward to raising awareness of, and funds for, this fantastic facility.
“Linked with our birthday celebrations, we will be involved over the next year in a series of fund-raising schemes to benefit both Maggie’s and the club, as proud partners. These will be announced soon.”
Laura Tomlinson, fund-raising manager for the Oldham centre, said the club was keen to raise awareness of a charity that was close to the chairman’s heart.
She added: “The approach came at the right time as we hope to open in May and we need as much projection as we can get.
“We are thrilled to partner Oldham RLFC. In terms of reaching out to the community, it seems too good to be true because we need as many people as possible to know all about Maggie’s and the support we have to offer.
“We need to raise funds to keep the doors open and we’ll be working hard with the Roughyeds on joint initiatives.
“We are delighted to be part of the club’s big year and to be working together for mutual benefit.”
