Oldham RL club’s long term injury victim Craig Briscoe could be pushing for a return to action sooner than expected.
The former Leigh and Barrow second-row forward had major surgery last month to rebuild his right knee. It was thought he would be out for much of the season but latest progress reports indicate that he is ahead of initial timescales.
Briscoe is working on an extensive rehab program prepared by Ollie Waite, a new addition to the Roughyeds backroom staff this season and also a rehab specialst at Huddersfield Giants.
Said Club Chairman Chris Hamilton
“Craig’s consultant is delighted with the range of movement in the knee at this early stage
He is now able to drive again which means he will have extra sessions with Ollie in Huddersfield.
If he continues to progress at this rate we could effectively have a new player back in action sooner that we thought.
We certainly won’t be rushing him back but all the signs are positive”
Prop Ben Davies, 18th man against London Broncos, might get his first Championship appearance of the season, after injury, at Hull KR on Sunday.
Liam Thompson could also be back but dual registration prop Tyler Dickinson won’t be available because he has been drafted into Huddersfield’s 19 man squad to play Wakefield this weekend.
