Bad day at the office -- Scott

Scott blamed the fact that the players didn’t put into practice what they had been rehearsing all week for our 50-10 hammering at Batley..

With an awful performance that was similar in many ways to the one they put on in their 48-0 drubbing at Hull KR a month ago, Scott’s boys conceded nine tries.

They were 24-0 down at half-time. It was all over bar the shouting even at that stage.

Said the Roughyeds’ boss: “We had worked on certain things all week, but for whatever reason we didn’t go out and put them into practice.

“Everyone knows how Batley play on their own ground and what you have to do to try and stop them. We didn’t do it and as a consequence Batley scored exactly the sort of tries we knew they would score if we fell short in the plans we had made during the week.

“We had showed the boys footage stuff and all that, but it made no difference to how we played.

“It was a bad day at the office.

“We’ve got to be tougher away from home and we’ve got to have more about us for 80 minutes rather than in very short spells.

“This is a tough Championship division and we can’t rely on home form alone.

“We will work on things this week, and talk about a few things as well, and go again against Bradford Bulls at Bower Fold on Sunday.”

We were awarded the first three penalties of the game and by taking advantage of that, and playing downhill, we dominated the opening exchanges without ever looking comfortable in our ability to break down a determined Bulldogs rearguard.

On one of their first concerted attacks, however, the Bulldogs went ahead with the first of their nine tries and that was a hint of what was to come.

They led 24-0 at half-time and went out to 30-0 before Michael Ward and Richard Lepori grabbed two tries back.

Bulldogs then scored four more tries in the last 18 minutes to add to our troubles.
