IF fans are looking for a souvenir of tomorrow’s Oldham versus Haydock cup tie —- a history-making game for the community club —- they might consider the purchase of the glossy, 24-page match programme for £2.50.
Four and a half pages are devoted to ‘the Yickers’ with squad pen pictures, a piece on coach Chris Smith, three to watch, a round-up of Haydock’s superb Challenge Cup progress to date, various pictures and a look at the club’s founding fathers.
For Roughyeds fans there’s a centre-spread 2017 official squad picture, a round-up of the club’s 100 per cent record against amateur teams since the formation of Oldham RLFC (1997) Ltd and cup-tie messages from chairman Chris Hamilton and coach Scott Naylor.
It was good to see the Haydock club featured earlier this evening on BBC television’s North-West regional news programme.
They got the big TV build-up as the lowest-ranked club ever to reach this stage of the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup — a measure of their gigantic achievement in earning their day in the sun (or rain ?) at Bower Fold.
“Win, lose or draw, I’ll be the proudest man around,” said club secretary Frank Bradshaw.
