Turning back the clock on derby day

This Sunday Rochdale Hornets will host Oldham at Spotland and ex-players from both clubs are taking this as an opportunity to rekindle their competitive spirit, whilst at the same time raising money for two great causes – the Stephen Gartland Foundation and the Rochdale Hornets Sporting Foundation.

Ian Sinfield, who played for both clubs, has assembled an Oldham side to face a Rochdale squad brought together by Emon Ratu and Chris Churm, both ex-Hornets and now board members at Spotland.

There will also be teams from leading local sides Oldham St Annes and Rochdale Mayfield taking part in the ‘Rochdale EuroTag RL Festival’. EuroTag is a relatively new and exciting format of semi-contact Rugby League which has been developed by former Oldham and GB international centre, Des Foy, and his son Declan.

The event starts at 11am at Rochdale Mayfield, with the players afterwards heading up to Spotland to watch the eagerly anticipated derby together.

Everyone is welcome to come and watch, and if you would like a run-out then bring your kit and boots, and you will get a game (over 16’s).
