The Kingstone Premiership Shield fixtures have been released by the Rugby Football League following-on from the initial announcement of the first-round ties last Thursday.
Oldham start the Shield campaign away to Sheffield Eagles this coming Sunday, August 6 (Kick-off 3.00pm). The tie will be played at Wakefield’s Beaumont Legal Stadium and it will be the second Roughyeds visit to the Super League venue in three weeks.
Round 2 will bring Bradford Bulls back to Bower Fold for the first time since Kieran Gill’s late, match-winning try set the Oldham fans dancing on the terraces after a memorable Oldham victory back in April.
A tough away visit to the Fox’s Biscuits stadium in Batley will provide a big test for Scott Naylor’s team in round 3 before round 4 requires a short journey over to Rochdale Hornets. The Roughyeds will be battling for their first 2017 victory over their old rivals having drawn one and lost two of the year’s derby games so far.
It’s back to Bower Fold for round 5 and a second visit of the French team Toulouse Olympique. The men from the south-west of France will be hoping for an improved performance against Oldham after losing here 14-12 in early July. Oldham will be waiting however and looking forward to a repeat performance and a home double for the season.
Swinton Lions provide the round 6 opposition and they’ll be a tough nut to crack away at Heywood Road. Oldham will want to repeat their 2016 Shield win at the Sale stadium and with both teams scrambling for points it could be a nail-biting game.
Finally, we welcome Dewsbury Rams back to Bower Fold in round 7. Oldham beat Dewsbury away this season after a terrific second half comeback. Dewsbury turned the tables on Oldham during their last visit to Stalybridge, grabbing the points in the dying stages of the game. This last-round tie will be something of a decider between the two sides and the points on offer could have significant importance for both clubs.
