The Kingstone Press Championship Shield competition commences this weekend and Oldham are preparing to play their round-one match versus Sheffield Eagles (away) on Sunday, August 6 (kick-off 3.00pm).
The Roughyeds will visit Sheffield’s current home-ground at the Beaumont Legal Stadium in Wakefield for the second time in three weeks. They’ll be looking to reverse the result of their last appearance at the Super League venue when the Eagles overcame a spirited second-half performance from Oldham and ran-out 42-28 winners.
The Oldham players reported back from their mid-season break on Tuesday when the current state of the injury list was assessed. Luke Adamson (shoulder), Matty Wilkinson (ankle) and Liam Thompson (sternum) all trained and there is hopeful news of Danny Langtree’s return to action. He is still awaiting a second scan on his bicep but he took part in some training and will be further tested again at tonight’s (Thursday) training session as the build-up to the big game continues.
There’s hope that the playing squad will be boosted by the return to training of Sam Gee and Connor Williams. The Oldham No.9 has been ill while the on-loan Williams took a knock whilst training with his parent club Salford.
Sadiq Adebiyi and fellow London Broncos player Kameron Pearce-Paul will travel up from London to further boost Scott Naylor’s selection options ahead of Sunday’s game. Pearce-Paul has now recovered from a sternum injury picked up against Featherstone Rovers on July 9, keeping him out of the Roughyeds line-up for the past few weeks.
