OLDHAM, already relegated, will drop the curtain on the 2017 season by taking on Dewsbury Rams at Bower Fold on Sunday (3pm) with a squad that contains neither dual-reg nor on-loan players.

Dual-reg men, from Huddersfield Giants, haven’t figured for the past few games, but the side that lost 29-6 at Swinton last week, in a game Roughyeds had to win to give themselves a chance of staying in the Championship, contained four loan men in Luke Hooley, Kameron Pearce-Paul, Liam Bent and Sadiq Adebiyi.

A fifth loanee, Ben Morris, had played in the previous five games.

The club didn’t want to throw up the opportunity to play their own fully-fledged Oldham players in the last game of the year so coach Scott Naylor will go with the only 17 real Roughyeds who are available.

Craig Briscoe has been out all season; Phil Joy, Danny Langtree and club captain Gareth Owen are recovering from operations; and Scott Turner looks as though he won’t play again after problems with concussion.

“We’re trying to put out a team of our own lads and I don’t know the last time we were able to do that,” said Naylor.

“We’ve only 17 who are available and some of those have knocks and so on, but they all want to play and do their best for the club and for the fans for one last time this season.

“After what happened at Swinton it’s been a bad week for them, but everyone who is able is keen to play in the last game and we feel it only right that we go with our own lads on this occasion.

“It will be a strange day. It’s not nice to have to play another game after what happened last week, but we are a professional club and the right thing to do is to give everything we’ve got right to the end. That’s wh will beat we’ll be doing.”

The 17 who will represent Roughyeds for the 32nd and final time this year will be:

Adamson, Burke, Clay, Davies, Gee, Grimshaw, Hewitt, Hughes, Leatherbarrrow, Lepori, Neal, Nield, Spencer, Thompson, Tyson, Ward, Wilkinson.

Before kick-off there will be a minute’s applause for everyone with club connections who has died during the season, including several supporters who are named in the match-day programme and former players Ray Clark, Bill Churm, Terry Ramshaw, Tony Barrow jnr, Sid Little OBE and Dick Bonser.
