Midweek miscellany

AS Scott Naylor has said so often, Oldham’s Roughyeds Supporters Association (ORSA) plays a key role in its hands-on backing of the squad and coaching staff.

Depending on available funds, ORSA contributes regularly to the cost of dressing-room requirements as well as offering season-long sponsorship of a player.

Its latest contribution was to sponsor the Supporters’ Player of the Year at the recent Awards Night.

To help as it does, ORSA has to fund-raise and one of its regular events is its monthly Quiz Night, the latest of which will take place tomorrow (Thursday, Nov 29) at the Vestacare Stadium.

Billed as a night of family fun with a Christmas theme, it starts at 8pm and admission to the quiz costs a nominal £1.

There are prizes, raffles and an available jackpot worth £200.

For the cost of a few quid you can enjoy a convivial evening with fellow fans and directly help ORSA and the parent club at the same time.

Season Tickets

A REMINDER that you can buy season tickets at discounted prizes up to December 14. They are ideal Christmas presents for Roughyeds fans.

Back the boys” and buy a season ticket to get vital funds into the club during a period when we are signing up players and getting ready for 2019 with little money coming in.

WE have been asked to spread news of Lester Chattein, who was a well-known administrator on the rugby league scene in Oldham up to a few years ago.

Now living near Derby, he has broken a hip in a fall and has been diagnosed terminally ill with cancer.

He would love to hear from some of his old mates in Oldham.

To find out more, or to get contact details, ring Nicola Tickle on 07769294103 or write to her at 4, Rivington St, Oldham OL1 3EW.

We have passed on these details to Phil Bradbury of the Oldham Amateur League — an organisation which, in 2011, presented Lester with a long-service award.
Lester also served on the BARLA board as a rep for the North-West Counties junior league.

IT’S been a hectic few days in the media department with the start of pre-season training; the announcement of the 2019 fixtures; the signing of Emmerson Whittel ; and news of next Tuesday night’s open forum for fans at the Vestacare Stadium.

We have a great start to the new campaign with home games against Workington Town and Whitehaven on the first two Sundays.

The new 1895 Cup, which gives clubs outside Super League a realistic chance of going all the way to Wembley, will provide additional anticipation ahead of the big kick-off in February.

But the big news this week concerned the forthcoming public forum. We hope to get a good turn-out on the night.

It will be interesting to hear what’s said.
