AARON Jones-Bishop, one of Oldham’s six new signings, played on the wing as Jamaica beat Canada 39-8 and the USA 16-10 to win the Americas Championship and, with it, automatic qualification for the 2021 World Cup in England.
Reporting from the Hodges Stadium at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Phil Caplan said the win against the USA sparked wild celebrations, given that Jamaica had become the first Caribbean nation ever to qualify for World Cup finals.
In each game, Oldham’s new winger started off with his brother Ben (Wakefield Trinity) as his centre partner, but Ben later switched to full-back in both games.
Aaron, one of 17 signings announced by Roughyeds so far, will be back in the UK in time for the start of pre-season training later this week.
More signings are expected to be announced by the club before then.
