Lester Chattein dies, aged 72

LAST autumn we reported the news that Lester Chattein, once a well-known figure on the local rugby league scene, was terminally ill with cancer in a nursing home near Derby.

Friends and relatives in Oldham have now asked us to let people know that Lester has died in the nursing home, having moved to the East Midlands some years ago to be nearer his immediate family. He was 72.

Anyone requiring further information is asked to contact Nicola Tickle (07769294103), who lives at 4, Rivington St, Oldham OL1 3EW.

The Oldham Amateur League presented Lester with a long-service award in 2011.

He also served on the British Amateur Rugby League (BARLA) board as a representative of the North-West Counties Junior League.

His funeral will be at Derby Crematorium at 4.15pm on Friday, February 15 but further details can be obtained by ringing Nicola on the number given above.
