The club is looking for willing helpers, men or women, to assist behind the scenes at the Mayoral 999 Day when Doncaster come to the Vestacare Stadium on Sunday, August 18.
It will be the last home game of the regular 2019 Betfred League 1 season and it will form part two of the club’s ‘Awesome August’, which starts seven days earlier when Newcastle Thunder are here in another key game in the battle for promotion.
Fast forward seven days and that’s when we’ll need all the help we can get to put on a show fit for the Mayor of our town, Councillor Ginny Alexander, and her Consort husband Adrian Alexander, who will need no introduction to older fans as an accomplished Roughyeds front-row forward of yesteryear.
Watching the current Oldham side in battle is sure to kindle many happy memories for the Mayor and, especially, for Mr Alexander, or ‘Alex’ as he was popularly known in his rugby league days.
We also hope to have with us the Leader of Oldham Council, Sean Fielding, and the three local MPs, Debbie Abrahams, Jim McMahon and Angela Raynor.
Among the many stalls and activities will be a row of stocks in which non-playing members of the Oldham squad will set themselves up as targets for fans with wet sponges.
Also present will be the Donkeystone Brewery of Greenfield, a new and exciting microbrewery, providing craft ales in the hills of Saddleworth.
Also invited are representatives of the emergency services, Fire, Ambulance and Police.
There will be lots of stalls and activities and our band of volunteers will need to arrive early in the day to help with general duties, with the setting up of stalls and then with the manning of them.
Anyone interested is asked to ring the club as soon as possible on 07904 898 177 and leave name and contact details.
We are also appealing for suitable tombola prizes which will need to be into the office please by August 14.
On and off the field we hope it will be a day to remember — definitely the biggest match-day operation we have ever undertaken.
