New prize structure for Club Cash lottery

TO coincide with a significantly increased prize pot, we are launching a major initiative to increase membership of our Club Cash lottery.

The end of the season is not too far away and we’ve already used up our allocation of ten home games in the regular Betfred League 1 programme.

Crowds are up on last season, thanks mainly to all our community initiatives and the like, but they are still at a level which demands that we rely on funding from other sources, such as Club Cash, to keep the club’s head above water.

We are delighted to announce, therefore, that from this week’s draw on Wednesday, August 28, there will be an increase in WEEKLY prize money of approximately £1,275, taking the amount of money to be won each week to a figure of £3,100 or thereabouts.

It isn’t a definitive figure because the number of £10 consolation prizes can vary week to week but the current average, 45, is going up to approximately 65.

The guaranteed WEEKLY first prize goes up from £1,000 to £2,000. The second prize remains the same, £250, and the third prize is down slightly from £125 to £100, but there is now a fourth prize of £50 and two prizes each of £25 plus approximately 65 consolation prizes of £10.

The weekly jackpot remains the same, going up by £500 a week when not won to a maximum of £10,000.

You get all those chances to win for £1 a week and that isn’t going up. You can’t get a cup of coffee for that !

We can’t stress to much how important it is for the future well-being of the club to increase income from Club Cash.

We know all too well what happens when a club isn’t financially sustainable — remember 1997 ? — and currently in the world of football we have all read of the crises at Bury FC and at Bolton Wanderers.

So if you’re not a member please give serious consideration to joining.

You can download a standing order form here and instruct your bank to pay £4.35 monthly, £13 quarterly, £26 half-yearly or £52 annually.

You then send in the form to the club’s lottery co-ordinator John McAndrew, Oldham RLFC, Vestacare Stadium, Whitebank Road, Oldham OL8 3JH.

Please do not send it to the bank. It needs to go to John at the club.

If you wish to speak to John first ring him at the club on 07904 898177, preferably on Wednesday afternoons or Fridays. If he isn’t available leave you name and contact number and he’ll get back to you.

We collect £2 a week fortnightly on a door-to-door basis (if you prefer that) but it’s easier logistically for all concerned if memberships function on a direct debit/standing order basis.

Many thank in anticipation of your support.

AS lockdown restrictions start to ease, now is the time for everyone connected with Oldham RLFC to do all they can to help with getting income from our Club Cash lottery back to where it was before the pandemic started to bite.

This is vital for the club and its finances which, as you all know, have taken a massive hit in the past 12 months.

Collectors will be returning to door-to-door visits in the next few weeks and we hope people who suspended payments will pick up where they left off as we strive and work hard to get back to where we were before the pandemic caused us to lose 50 per cent of our lottery income.

Many of our regular punters, who would normally pay a collector, have answered our calls for help by finding other ways to pay and to retain their chances of winning prizes.

To those people we are very grateful and we would like to take this opportunity to thank them once again for their loyal and continued support.

The lottery, of course, is potentially one of our biggest fund-raisers and for as little as £1 a week — more if you wish — you can help the club immensely and at the same time have chances to win £1,000, £100, £50, £25 or one of ten consolation prizes of £10.

That’s the present prize structure. There’s every chance it will be increased once we are out of lockdown, door-to-door collections start again and we get back to some sort of normality.

In the meantime you can join, or start up again, by contacting the club on 07904 898177 or by email to: enquiries@roughyeds.co.uk

For more information about the lottery, and for the “great opportunities” provided by our partnership with the National Youth and Community Development Association (NYCDA) go our Club Cash page.

There, you will find all the results and a detailed statement about getting back to normal with the help of our not-for-profit partners.

All proceeds from the partnership will continue to support the club and help us to meet the aims of our Club Cash activities, particularly in its aims and objectives to be an active stakeholder in the local community.
