The Roughyeds

First-time sponsors on board as we head into a new decade

AS Oldham RLFC gears up for a new decade with major changes on and off the field, the club is delighted to report that its sponsorship portfolio in 2020 will be buoyed by business partnerships with several new companies.

Many are sticking with Roughyeds, having been with us in some cases for many years, but among the club’s new commercial partners for the 2020 Betfred Championship campaign are our new main sponsors CDX Security of Warrington as well as others such as the Oldham Reporter, 1895 Sports and the Donkeystone Brewing Company of Greenfield.

These, and others, will all be featured on playing and replica kit as the promoted Roughyeds and their commercial backers head for a higher division — the Betfred Championship — at the start of a new decade with new chief sponsors, several new signings and a new head coach in Matt Diskin.

By necessity, home games will also be played away from the Vestacare Stadium at the Bower Fold home of Stalybridge Celtic FC, where Roughyeds and their fans enjoyed their stay when the team was last in the Championship in 2016 and 2017.

Whichever way you look at it, the forthcoming season is going to represent a fresh start for Roughyeds after their second promotion in five years.

Said club chairman Chris Hamilton:

“There are a lot of new features about the club as we look ahead to 2020 but one thing is always the same — our gratitude for everyone’s sponsorship and our determination to provide value for money by working together for mutual benefit.

“I say a massive ‘thank you’ to everyone who is backing us commercially in the new 2020 season. Together we’ll face head-on the challenges that lie ahead and hopefully come through successfully at the other end.”

Of the newcomers, CDX Security are heavily involved in Rugby League, providing a wide range of security services to clients across the UK and already well known to many rugby league clubs.

Our new kit suppliers, 1895 Sports, whose co-owner is Warrington Wolves second-row forward Mike Cooper, are also heavily connected in our sport, as you might expect.

Donkeystone Brewing Company is a micro-brewery in Greenfield which produces craft beers in the hills of Saddleworth.

The Oldham Reporter, part of the Quest Media Network, is another newcomer. The paper is now free of charge and delivering 25,000 copies regularly across the region. It’s stable mates include the Tameside Reporter, the Glossop Chronicle and Tameside Radio 103.6 and we will be working with them all in a bid to build our Tameside fan base.

Among those who have been with us previously, and are sticking with us, is the Oldham Times, part of the huge Newsquest operation, which is out every Thursday with comprehensive coverage of all things Roughyeds.

Swans Travel of Chadderton carry the team to away games, as they have done for several seasons, and H Mullaney and Son of Mossley, one of the region’s largest waste management and recycling plants, are back as loyal old timers.

Said Shirley Mullaney:

“We’ve been around the club for a long time, 21 years to be precise. We do what we can to help and I guess we will for the foreseeable future.”

Among other companies who have supported the club previously and are back in 2020 will be Purpose Business and Marketing — “your purpose is our passion” — and Premier Kia, the car dealership which has supported us for several years.

Julie Collins, managing director of Purpose Business and Marketing is on the club’s managerial support team which helps Chris Hamilton to run the club and it’s no coincidence that Purpose staff often assist the club on marketing, admin and programme matters.

Said Julie:

“Purpose is delighted to continue our sponsorship of Oldham RLFC in 2020. We are very excited about promotion and all it will bring to the club.

“Last season was a great season and the team excelled. Bring on 2020 !”.

The Property Buying Company, a national outfit whose nearest office is in Leeds, have also renewed for 2020.

With many years of experience in the property buying arena, the company says it can offer an unparalleled level of customer service with use of the company’s Change Team (an industry first).

From arranging removals, helping to find rental property, or negotiating onward purchases, the company will not only buy your property; it will make sure the transaction is seamless and remove stress and strain from the change-over, while also saving you money.

Club Cash

AS you all know from your own experiences these are tough times for everybody, but we believe you will agree that OLDHAM RLFC is taking massive inspiration from the fabulous NHS and other key workers in tackling Covid head-on, while looking forward positively to the 2021 season and better times ahead thanks to the outstanding work now being done to get people vaccinated as quickly as possible.

Nevertheless, we have to face facts and be realistic enough to accept that the club urgently needs every pound that is currently coming in from whatever source. One of those sources is our Club Cash lottery and we would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who support us on this. A lot of you who used to pay our collectors on the doorstep have responded to our suggestions on how to pay by different methods and we are extremely grateful for that. Thanks again. You will never know how much difference your contributions make.

Alas, our income from the lottery has dropped by more than 50 per cent over the course of the pandemic and that would be a huge blow financially at any time let alone a time of unprecedented hardship because of the pandemic. It really is a situation we seriously need to address.

With that in mind the prize fund for the duration of the latest national lockdown will be temporarily reduced from February 10.

You will still be able to win a £1,000 first prize, plus £100, £50, £25 and ten £10 prizes every week, while continuing to provide vital support for the club and it will only cost you £1 a week. You can’t get a decent coffee for that, but the difference it makes to the club when multiplied a few times over and then multiplied again by 52 – the number of weeks in the financial year – is of major significance.

If you can help us at all — for £1 a week — it would be hugely appreciated by everyone with Oldham RL Club at heart. The prize structure still represents good value for money for an outlay of £1.

To those who are already members and help us accordingly, we very much hope to retain your support at this extremely difficult time.

Should you wish to play but don’t, due to the pausing of cash collection rounds, we have other options available, which you can discuss with our lottery administrator, John McAndrew on 07980129541 or from the club on 07904 898177.

Alternatively, you can send an email to: mcandrewj@aol.com or to: enquiries@roughyeds.co.uk

The prize fund will be increased back to previous levels as soon as latest lockdowns are released. Please watch our website and social media platforms for further announcements.

Finally, if you want more information about the lottery or you wish to discuss your membership please contact one of the numbers given above.

A huge thank-you to you all.
