Jimmy Reynolds funeral details

Jimmy Reynolds’ funeral will be held at Sacred Heart RC Church, Walmesley Road, Leigh WN7 1YE at 10.30am this Friday, January 10, 2020 with an evening reception, from 5.30pm, at the Spinners Arms, Firs Road, Leigh, WN7 4SB, phone 07731316331.

The family say Jimmy loved his playing days at Oldham and on Friday they would love to see any of his former teammates, members of the Ex-Players’ Association and supporters who remember him.

Any queries ring Mick Aspey on the above number.

A loose-forward who always played well above his weight, Jimmy scored 22 tries in 137 senior games for Oldham between 1970 and 1978 and, in the early part of the decade, played in a hugely successful side that featured players like Frank Foster, Cliff Hill, Ken Wilson, Kevin Taylor and Bob Irving, coached by Graham Starkey.

He was one of several Leigh lads at the club at that time, notably Martin Murphy, Tommy Davies and himself.

Full-back Murphy went on to play a post-war club record number of games for the club before finishing his career at Rochdale.
