Widnes cup-tie date confirmation

OLDHAM RLFC can confirm that their Coral Challenge Cup fourth-round tie at Widnes Vikings will take place on Sunday, February 23 with a 3pm kick-off.

The same two teams met at the same stage of the Challenge Cup last season when Widnes won 54-14 at Bower Fold in front of a four-figure crowd.

This time they will go head-to-head at the DCBL Stadium just three weeks after beating Roughyeds 36-6 at Bower Fold (attendance 1,726) in the opening game of the 2020 Betfred Championship campaign.

The crowd that day attracted the biggest Roughyeds’ home league gate for several years, going back to 2008 when a Boundary Park crowd of 2,806 watched Roughyeds beat Doncaster 36-16 on their way to a third-place finish behind Gateshead Thunder and Barrow Raiders in National League Two.

Coached by Ellery Hanley, Doncaster were to avenge that defeat when, from a fourth-place finish, they beat Oldham 18-10 in the play-off Grand Final.

Club Cash Lottery

In challenging times for businesses we are again stressing our urgent need for more financial support via the Club Cash lottery from both existing and new members.

With door-to-door collections temporarily abandoned, some have paid up front to cover a few weeks; moved to direct debit; or completed a bank transfer but the overall result has seen a drop in lottery income of nearly 50 per cent.

This trend is hitting all clubs and organisations and we have had to temporarily modify the weekly prize structure in line with the number of people taking part.

We still have a weekly first prize of £1,000 and other prizes of £100, £50 and £25 plus some £10 consolation prizes and we urgently and seriously need people to help us on this.

One way is to download a direct debit form here and follow the instructions.
