Fans gearing up for the virtual Promotion Final

OLDHAM fans are excited and enthusiastic about re-living the Promotion Final win against Newcastle Thunder — a great day last October which earned cock-a-hoop Roughyeds their 11th win in 12 games and sent them up to the Betfred Championship.

The thrilling 18-14 win will be streamed via YouTube on Friday evening, starting at 7pm. It’s FREE to watch but the club has opened a virtual game-day shop to raise vital funds at this time of unprecedented difficulty and the early response has been extremely encouraging.

All 17 players on duty that day have already been sponsored at £10 a time and the response from fans has been such that coaches and the rest of the squad in last season’s promotion campaign are now available for the £10 sponsorship.

Scott Naylor, whose seven-year reign at the club as head coach ended in the best possible way, has also been sponsored.

Still available for £10 backing as we look back to the glorious end to the 2019 season are Scott’s assistant back then, Pete Carey, plus 2019 conditioner Adam Neal, himself a fans’ favourite in his playing days for Oldham, and squad members Harry Aaronson, Jack Holmes, Ben Calland, Adam Brook, Ben Davies, Jamie Greenwood, Harry Maders, Ed Smith and Luke Hooley.

Using links on this Roughyeds website, you can also make a donation to the club, or virtually buy a pie (£2) and a pint (£3), tea or coffee (each £1) and a big-match programme (£3).

Fans have taken to the club’s social media platforms to say who they have sponsored and how much they are looking forward to watching the final again.

One fan, who has sponsored Liam Bent and Cameron Leeming, tweeted: “Sponsoring two good lads, Last of the big spenders ! VE Day, with a bit of rugby league, a few cans of Guinness, shouting abuse at the ref. My cup runneth over.”

The club wishes to offer a massive thanks to those who have already backed Roughyeds on this and point out that the virtual game-day store will be open up to the 7pm kick-off, during the match and also after the game.

All you have to do is go to the website, follow the links and you will receive a receipt by email.

Let’s all get behind the lads as they go flat out to conquer a Thunder side whose pre-game messages of support and goodwill included one from soccer legend and Geordie icon Alan Shearer.

Come on you Yeds !
